About the Event

Here you will find new arguments for why you should never be admitted to the Danish National Hospital! Doctors, nurses, patients, ghosts and misfits appear in a wild, chaotic round dance. Riket 2 is if possible even sicker and more raucous than its predecessor. Helmer returns from Haiti with a witch's brew that can turn people into zombies. He intends to use it on Krogshøj, who has incriminating evidence against him in the Mona case. Meanwhile, Judith has given birth to a grotesque deformity, which is growing at a frightening pace. Mrs Drusse talks to the spirits, and the two dishwashing assistants agree that something is seriously wrong in the Kingdom.

The uncompromising auteur Lars von Trier surprised most people with the TV series Riket when it came out in 1994, between the feature films Europa (1991) and Breaking the Waves (1996), both of which were awarded at Cannes. Lars von Trier called Riket a "left-handed work" - in a positive sense - and he was clearly and explicitly inspired by David Lynch's Twin Peaks, which showed that film artists could both master and revolutionize the television series format. The first season was followed by Riket 2 in 1997, and after many years of waiting, speculation, mystery and myth-making, it finally became clear that von Trier will once again return to Rikshospitalet with Riket Exodus in 2022. In other words, the gate to the Kingdom is underway about to reopen, and the Cinemateket invites you to exclusive cinema screenings of the newly restored editions of Riket and Riket 2 ahead of the premiere.
